Scheepstouw, or Ship's Rope, come in cylindrical pieces that look like short segments of rope. They are a hard licorice candy with a salty flavor and are dusted with a light salmiak powder coating.

Sugar, glucose syrup, ammonium chloride, licorice powder, natural flavors, color (vegetable carbon).

The best

These are by far my favorite candy from my childhood living in Norway..called a different thing but taste the same and are so good!

I guess I didn't read the write-up carefully enough but I was surprised that this was hard candy and not chewable licorice. When you first put the candy in your mouth there is a very strong licorice flavor and a grassy flavor. As the candy dissolves, the grassy flavor quickly disappears and the licorice flavor is not as strong. It's a nice strong non-salt licorice flavor.

Very interesting... the coating on the outside is a flavor that I can't describe. It's salmiak, but it has a sort of burnt taste to it. Once the coating dissolves it's a very nice salmiak licorice hard candy with a salmiak powder in the middle. I don't think I would get these again.
