These were my first experience with salty licorice. My sister-in-law brought a box back for me as a souvenir from their family's trip to the Netherlands. The first one I tried was a shock. I never had anything like that before. I thought it was gross.
I took them to work and put the box on my desk as sort of a prank. After a while, having no other snacks at hand, I decided to try another. They started to grow on me. The next thing I knew, the box was gone and I was sad. I ordered some more.
I ended up getting a few of my co-workers hooked on it as well. Years ago, since none of us smoked, we started the tradition of the "2 O'clock licorice break." It's still going. We started it back up again after "Return to office."
Everybody takes turns bringing in new and different kinds of sweet and salty licorice to try, ... even the formidable DZ! Lol We've had examples from all different countries and keep the wrappers to add to the "collection." It all started with "Oldtimers Hindelooper Ruitjesdrop," ... still my all time favorite salty licorice.
