First of all, I was expecting something more like Amarelli's "Sasolini," but these are actually more like "Salmiak Buttons" (though, with a fairly hard candy coating): fair enough. However, there were far more "white" (i.e., peppermint) than "black" (i.e., plain) buttons in this "Black and White Mix" and the filling (which is a powder filling) had so much salmiak that you could hardly taste the licorice powder -- especially in the "black" buttons (maybe that's how they prefer it in Holland, not sure). A bit more licorice powder -- and anise flavor -- in the "black" buttons would have given a much better contrast with the "white" buttons (but, again, this reflects an American bias towards sweeter, anise-flavored, licorice). The product, however, really wasn't that bad (for what it was) -- and I can see how the white buttons could actually function as a kind of "cough drop" -- but the taste, on the whole, is still a bit of a "culture shock" (even for those used to salmiak licorice).
